Kaitie Merrill
Tell us a bit about yourself (where you’re from, what your hobbies are, etc.) I am originally from Tipp City, Ohio. We moved to Columbus when I was a teen and although we've moved around a bit, we always find our way back to Columbus. I enjoy crocheting, playing with our pets, exploring fun places around the city and playing video games with my husband. What does a day in your life look like with your job/pursuits? I am a stay at home mom. Our typical day includes running my big kid to school and various activities and keeping my toddler busy! We love to check out parks, Cosi, the zoo and local play cafes. |
I've been married to my husband, Todd, for 10 years. We have 2 boys, Gavin and Maddox. Gavin is 8 and Maddox will be 2 in June. We also have 4 dogs, 2 snakes, 2 tortoises, a leopard gecko and a betta fish to keep us busy!
When you were pregnant, did you plan on wearing your baby?
I did. I started babywearing when I was a nanny and knew that I would wear my babies some day. My first carriers were a ring sling and an original Ergo.
What do you love about babywearing?
Babywearing has been such an amazing parenting tool. When my babies were little, babywearing helped me bond with them and keep them close while also taking care of daily chores and errands. As they have gotten bigger, I love that babywearing gives us extra snuggle time and a safe place for them to be.
Which one of your carriers do you use the most and what do you love about it?
I think this is a tie between my Comfy Joey ring slings and my Lenny Lamb SSC. I love ring slings for quick trips or when Maddox will be up and down a lot. For longer trips or when I need to get things done, I prefer to put him on my back in my SSC.
Tell us about your main role within the CBW Leadership Team?
I am a co-lead for the Monday meetings.
What additional role(s) do you have within the CBW Leadership Team?
I am on the Lending Library committee and I'm the Fundraising Committee Chair.
What drew you to become a leader for our community?
I really wanted to help spread the babywearing love and show other caregivers how helpful it can be. I think it can be overwhelming when you start and that can scare people off but it doesn't need to be complicated. Having one carrier that fits comfortably for you and baby is all you need!
What activity are you most likely to rely on babywearing to get done?
Grocery shopping and running errands in general. Maddox loves to explore and while I try to encourage that as much as possible, sometimes I need to just stick him on my back and get things done!
What skill do you hope to master over the next year? (does not have to be babywearing specific but it *can* be)
I would really like to continue improving my wrapping skills! My toddler is just now letting me wrap again and I'm excited to continue trying out new carries.
