My hobbies include spending time with my family, shopping, traveling to Colorado Springs to see my sister, planning family Disney trips as well as watching reality TV shows like Survivor.

What does a day in your life look like with your job/pursuits?
I'm a stay at home mom and currently while my husband is laid off our days are very much low key in the sense of job duties since there are two of us to two children. Though typically, I sleep until my girls get up for the day and then make breakfast and then get around for the day. Up until Evelyn, our oldest started preschool, we would meet up with friends at The Ohio History Center, The Naz or the Columbus Zoo. With preschool Monday-Thursday now the hours in our day are limited therefore less adventures midweek.

Tell us about your family (significant other, children, fur children, other pets, etc)
My husband Justin and I have been married for 4 years. We have two little girls named Evelyn who is 3.5 years old and Eleanor who turned 2 in May. We have a chihuahua named Sophie who currently lives with my mom as we found out Evelyn is allergic to dogs.

When you were pregnant, did you plan on wearing your baby?
I actually didn't plan to babywear with my oldest and even now I forget how I even came across babywearing or why I even borrowed a baby carrier regardless of the past, I continue to babywear but its few and far between as my girls continue through toddlerhood.

What do you love about babywearing?
I love that I can be hands free or that my day can continue despite missed naps. My oldest had a welcome back to school party and the youngest decided to finally take her nap at 6 pm at the start of the party and our trusty toddler kinderpack to the rescue.

Which one of your carriers do you use the most and what do you love about it?
Our most loved carriers would be either our toddler tula, toddler kp and our preschool kinderpack. I love them each for different reasons but I'd say our most used would be our toddler and preschool KP's which is due to them being Disney themed.

Tell us about your main role within the CBW Leadership Team?
My primary role is to staff Monday's skills workshop at Northwest Library.

What additional role(s) do you have within the CBW Leadership Team?
I am also involved in the lending library committee and I have been a Monday co-lead for a short period of time. I eventually stepped down from the Monday co-lead as the unknowns on where my husbands future career both in IT and the military were far to great along with my oldest attending preschool and wanting to be more involved there.

What drew you to become a leader for our community?
I always liked going to the Meet Ups as we well as events like summer shorties and everyone seemed friendly and down to earth. With not being from the area originally and not having many friends let alone parent friends I thought it'd be a great opportunity to get to known people especially those that love baby carriers just as much as I do.

What activity are you most likely to rely on babywearing to get done?
School drop offs and pick ups since they do not have a drop off line and we physically have to walk our daughter inside and to her physical classroom all while our youngest likes to explore big sisters classroom and doesn't want to leave.

What skill do you hope to master over the next year? (does not have to be babywearing specific but it *can* be)
Time management!! We barely make preschool drop off or any other scheduled events in time and every time I say I'm going to leave a few minutes earlier and it never fails that I'm still always late. Babywearing specific, I'd say I want to master the task of using all of the carriers that I own. I have my "go to" carriers leaving an unused, will never sell stack that I need to start enjoying again as I did when my girls were younger.

Leader Spotlight

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/leader-spotlight9225994

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/leader-spotlight9225994#comments

Leader Spotlight

Colleen Moss Tell us a bit about yourself (where you’re from, what your hobbies are, etc.)I have lived a variety of places, in my adult life I have primarily lived in Logan County, Ohio. We are also a homeschool family.

When you were pregnant, did you plan on wearing your baby?

When I became pregnant with my first I bought a Moby and an Ergo with an infant insert. Two months after my baby was earthside I bought my first woven wrap Kokadi Erna in wonderland.

What do you love about babywearing?

Babywearing for me makes parenting on the go easier. When you add in two additional kids who are on the go I need to be able to easily catch up with them and sometimes our location isn't ideal for strollers/wagons. Another thing I love about babywearing is the closeness. The feeling of a child's head resting on your chest/back as they fall asleep is one of the best feelings ever.

Which one of your carriers do you use the most and what do you love about it?

In this stage of my life I frequently use my Integra Solar carrier sometimes I switch it up to my BaBy SaBye meh dai. The Integra is a thin comfortable option that is able to get wet. The meh dai can be used to achieve a high back carry and I use it if I know we are going somewhere where my son will want to look around.

Tell us about your main role within the CBW Leadership Team?

My primary role is staffing the Saturday Skills Workshop in Grove City and Social Media Web chair.

What additional role(s) do you have within the CBW Leadership Team?

I am also a member of CBW Fundraising and Lending Library committees.

What drew you to become a leader for our community?

I have been wanting to volunteer my time for a while and since babywearing has been a passion of mine for so long I decided that joining an organization that shares babywearing education to caregivers is the perfect place to be.

What activity are you most likely to rely on babywearing to get done?

Every grocery trip a carrier is a must we may start them in a cart but I always walk out with one being carried on me. Hiking is another activity that babywearing is pretty much a given, little legs get tired and majority of places are not stroller friendly.

What skill do you hope to master over the next year? The Integra Solar is so easy to use (just 3 quick clicks and the carrier is on!) yet so comfortable for both baby and wearer. Lightweight, water-wicking fabric made it easy to wear in the 90+ degree heat. Due to the fabric being made for water play, we were able to comfortably use it even while wet from the chlorinated water without worrying about damaging the carrier! During the brief period when we were not using the carrier, it folded up really well into a compact space for storage. The carrier comes with a strap that can be used to cinch in the panel for a smaller baby, but is not required once the baby is tall enough to fit into 2T pants (for size 2). Much like other apron- style carriers, the Solar has an unpadded waist band and the arm straps can be worn backpack-style or crossed over the back. The hood is a great sun shield to protect baby while wearing. I highly recommend this carrier for use around the water!

Sign up for a Columbus Babywearing annual membership today to rent this great carrier and
others!

Leader Spotlight

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/leader-spotlight2544489

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/leader-spotlight2544489#comments

Leader Spotlight

Amy Swaagman Tell us a bit about yourself (where you’re from, what your hobbies are, etc.)I was born and raised in Columbus, I stay pretty busy between working full time on a night shift and staying home with my 2 young ones during the day so when I have a minute or two I sneak into my craft room. Usually we have an activity for my 3 yr old in the morning, swim class, clay class, gymnastics and playgrounds are our favorites. When my husband gets home from work that's when I have to leave for my job. Babywearing really gets us through these days so the baby and I can keep up with the toddler. By night I'm a supervisor for technical support.

Tell us about your family (significant other, children, fur children, other pets, etc)
Marred to my best friend and gaming partner for 8 years. We have two little ones (3 & 9mths) and two doggos (German shep and a shih tzu)

When you were pregnant, did you plan on wearing your baby?
It took us 3 years to have our first child, so while struggling with fertility meds and procedures, research kept me sane. All that I found solidified wanting to use baby carries from the getgo. I started with an ergo 360 and infinteno meh Dai from my baby shower.

What do you love about babywearing?
I've worked outside of the home full time after both maternity leaves so it's helped me feel connected when I am home. My husband also loves to wear our kids so it's common to see us in a grocery stores or out and about in carriers. Wearing my youngest has been a saving grace to spend 1on1 time with the older child. I love the different fandoms that I can subtly show off in my carriers like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Which one of your carriers do you use the most and what do you love about it?
I am pretty universally open to all types of carriers. I would say ring slings are my favorite followed by SSCs. I don't have a perticular favorite brand though and as my children have grown and entered different stages my "go to" carrier has shifted along with them. I have woven wraps in every size and have sewn my own Meh Dai because I like to have a carrier for every occasion.

Tell us about your main role within the CBW Leadership Team?
I am a Saturday skills workshop leader for our Grove City location! Lately I've been focusing on Stretchy station because my youngest is still small enough for stretchy wraps. My youngest was born premature so I've been building up a collection of pictures and information targeted towards extra small babies and how they fit in each type of carrier. It's been rewarding to help other moms of preemies feel understood and answer their specific unique questions.

What additional role(s) do you have within the CBW Leadership Team?
I am on our social media and web team. That means keeping the Facebook group & page running smooth, assisting online fitchecks, and creating weekly engagement posts.

What drew you to become a leader for our community?
I felt so welcomed from cbw leaders and members when I was a new mom. I wanted to be able to help out in our community but also be able to involve my children. It's the perfect volunteer opportunity because both kiddos come with me to each skills workshop!

What activity are you most likely to rely on babywearing to get done?
Umm, the list is too long! Shopping, toddler activities/classes, late night gaming, cooking food, cleaning, etc.

What skill do you hope to master over the next year? (does not have to be babywearing specific but it *can* be)
I recently feel I've mastered the Meh Dai which wasn't a favorite with my 1st born but now I love it! I think once my squirt of a baby gets bigger I'll want to master double hammock woven carries with fancy finishes.

Leader Spotlight

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/leader-spotlight6955325

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/leader-spotlight6955325#comments

Leader Spotlight

Ashley Williams Tell us a bit about yourself (where you’re from, what your hobbies are, etc.)I'm a 33 year mom of four. We're originally from Springfield, OH, but 2 of our children have been born in Columbus. As a family, we spend a lot of time exploring the parks, woods, and splash pads of the city and playing disc golf. Personally, I enjoy sewing, reading, binging nerdy television, cooking for my friends and family, and playing video games (with or without my husband). I especially love sewing baby carriers for myself. I've made almost every kind I can think of and have made multiples of almost all of them: woven wrap, ring sling, stretchy wrap, SSC, meh dai, onbuhimo, pouch sling, and dai nyia. There's something a little magical about taking a pile of fabric and transforming it into something that will comfortably hold and snuggle your child. I've also helped many friends learn to sew and create their own carriers as well. My favorite type to experiment with are SSCs. There are so many ways to tweak a pattern just a little bit and completely change how the carrier fits and feels when you're wearing with it. Aside from sewing, I love to read and try to read every night for an hour or more. Fantasy, historical fiction, and true crime are my favorite genres. Harry Potter is my absolute favorite and I read the entire 7 book series every year. It always feels like visiting old friends. I also love to watch nerdy television and movies: Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, anything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Outlander, and the Lord of the Rings are some of my favorites.

What does a day in your life look like with your job/pursuits?
I'm a stay at home mom to my four children. When the older ones aren't in school, we try to spend as much time outside as possible. We also enjoy going to COSI and the zoo as often as we can. I try to carve out time for at least one activity for myself each day, whether that's doing some sewing, taking a hot bath, or watching a show. It can be tough to find the time, but it really helps center me and brings me the strength and patience that my kiddos need and deserve from me.

Tell us about your family (significant other, children, fur children, other pets, etc)
My husband, James, and I have been together for 10 years and have been married for 5. Our children are: Laeney (age 12), Katherine (age 8), Melanie (age 5), and Henry (age 2). We also have a puppy, Baker, that we rescued earlier this year.

When you were pregnant, did you plan on wearing your baby?
I was very young when I got pregnant with my oldest (only 19). I had only ever seen narrow based carriers, so that's what I used with her until she was about 9 months old when we stopped wearing. My second daughter was very premature (born at 30 weeks) and during the time we were in the hospital with her, I did a lot of research about baby carriers knowing that being held, specifically on a caregiver's chest, was PARAMOUNT to healthy development after a premature birth. I realized I wanted to try wrapping when she came home from the NICU because it looked more comfortable than the narrow based carrier I still had from her sister. I also needed something I would be able to safely use with such a small baby. I bought a stretchy wrap to wear her in and it was the best thing I could have done. After spending 46 days in the NICU, it was so beneficial for both of us to be so close to each other for hours every day. Babywearing was already such a natural part of my parenting journey by the time my 3rd and 4th children were born, it was never even a question. I continued to wear my older children during my pregnancies and wore my youngest two from birth.

What do you love about babywearing?
I love that it allows me to keep my children close to me where I can talk to them as I go about my day. I love that it keeps my toddler contained in the grocery store. I love that it has allowed me to snuggle my children as newborns, soothe their crying, and still allow me to be hands free for my other children. I love that wearing allows me to be a safe, warm space for my toddlers when they're hurt, scared, overwhelmed, or tired. I love that my wraps can double as a car seat blanket or a picnic blanket. I love that all of my children have taken cues from me and wear their dolls and stuffed animals and will hopefully wear their own children if they decide to have any. I love wearing because it has made me a better and more successful parent.

Which one of your carriers do you use the most and what do you love about it?
I use my wovens wraps far more than anything else. I love that they are soft and snuggly for bedtime, but also rock steady for hours at COSI. I love that the same wrap can be used from the day your child is born until the day your child is so big you physically cannot carry them any more. I love the variety of carries that I can use to help prevent muscle fatigue when I'm wearing my kiddos.

Tell us about your main role within the CBW Leadership Team?
I teach at the Monday Skills Workshop and generally attend and teach at the Meet Up as well. I have also volunteered to help with other events, like Babies and Bumps and Summer Shorties.

What additional role(s) do you have within the CBW Leadership Team?
I'm a member of a few committees including the ones focused on education and outreach.

What drew you to become a leader for our community?
Before I became an official leader, I had already been teaching my friends and family members how to wear safely and comfortably. Applying for leadership seemed to be a natural next step. I love being able to help someone learn such a life changing skill.

What activity are you most likely to rely on babywearing to get done?
Grocery shopping, hands down. Bedtime is a close second.

What skill do you hope to master over the next year? (does not have to be babywearing specific but it *can* be)
I've been practicing my disc golf throw daily. I'm hoping to master it enough to be able to enter some tournaments next summer.

Lending Library Spotlight

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/lending-library-spotlight2007001

http://www.columbusbabywearing.com/blog/lending-library-spotlight2007001#comments

Lending Library Spotlight

Meh Dai

2Lambie Meh Dai Carrier Type: Meh DaiCarrier Manufacturer: 2Lambie full wrap conversion of Frankly Iris by Butterfly Baby Carrier Material: 100% cottonCarrier Size: standard size Meh DaiRetail Price Point: approximately $250Size of Wearee: 12 month clothingAge of Wearee: 15 monthsWhich Lending Library: Saturday Grove City Skills Workshop How the Carrier was Obtained: donated by 2Lambie General Review [...]

2Lambie Meh Dai

Carrier Type: Meh Dai
Carrier Manufacturer: 2Lambie full wrap conversion of Frankly Iris by Butterfly Baby
Carrier Material: 100% cotton
Carrier Size: standard size Meh Dai
Retail Price Point: approximately $250
Size of Wearee: 12 month clothing
Age of Wearee: 15 months
Which Lending Library: Saturday Grove City Skills Workshop
How the Carrier was Obtained: donated by 2Lambie

General Review: Photos just don't do this carrier justice. Its vibrant colors must be witnessed in person! Aside from being an absolutely stunning meh dai, this amazing carrier is reversible! That's correct, whether you prefer the pinks or blues, you can choose which color to feature at the top. In addition to its beauty, the cut of this carrier was well thought out by 2Lambie as the middle panel curves in to adjust for smaller children. However, if using a cinching method this carrier can easily be used from newborn up. I personally loved the comfy cozy feeling that this meh dai provides with its wide wrap straps and the pleats at the shoulder allow for personal preference, whether you choose to cup the shoulders or be worn narrow at the shoulders. Beauty, comfort, easy...this carrier has it all, so what are you waiting for? Overall, I find the aseema to be comfortable for both newborn and big kid. While there are some unique adjustments to be made on the carrier, it did get surprisingly tiny in the smallest setting while growing to the full soul toddler size in the largest. This makes for a generous size range.

Realistically, I think this newborn setting wouldn't fit well for about another month for this wearer although
there were no complaints. It fit quite well for the big wearee and both of us were comfortable. For the
newborn wearee, I had to put the waistband at my natural waist which meant the lumbar support needed
removed for a snug fit.

The carrier appears bulky but wears solid. I wish they would've did away with the confusing button adjusts present on this carrier as well as the original Ergo 360. This carrier offers multi-position carries typical of other SSCs. The leg/bum bulk is still present in this carrier similar to the original 360 which I'm not a fan of.

The canvas material is still the same that you see in many SSCs which softens nicely with use. They also added some fun pops of color on the inner panel and hood. And, they added a removable waistband pouch for keys/wallet/phone.

My wearee in this picture is 13mo, 30", and 25lbs, in 18mo pant size. I don't prefer to carry facing outward but he had fun and it was more comfortable than other carriers I've tried that face outward.
